Did Matilda Wilson forbid "contact sports" at OU?
There are many variations of this legend that you might have heard. To be clear, there is no document of any kind (no land grant stipulation or ammended contract, etc.) that forbids "contact sports" at Oakland University. OU officials have confirmed that the story is false, and nothing more than campus folklore. Cited here, the Oakland Post confirmed this fact inside the December 1, 2009 edition of the paper. This myth has been thriving at Oakland University for decades. The Football Club at Oakland University responds to this popular question with care and respect to OU's rich history and traditions.
Will OU ever get a "real" fooball team?
We are a real, college-level football team. Most people, when asking this question, are referring to NCAA status. NCAA status is not a goal for the Football Club. The football club would remain intact if OU ever decides to go that route. Many colleges in our league have both a NCAA team and a NCFA club (Ohio State, Miami(OH), Michigan State, etc.) . The main thing is that OU fans can enjoy college-level footbal games right now. Come to one of our games and you'll see.
Do you play other colleges? Full contact?
The football club at Oakland University competes in the National Club Fooball Association. It is a 26 team league. OU is one of the Great Lakes Conference teams along with Wright State, Ohio State, Michigan State, Miami (OH), and UM-Flint. The rules reflect NCAA football rules, along with some extra NCFA rules. The games are played full contact with pads, and game play is of college-level speed and talent.
